Correa anuncia que parejas gay podrán registrar unión de hecho en la cédula.

Los homosexuales podrán inscribir en Ecuador sus “uniones de hecho” en el documento de identidad, pese a que no está reconocido el matrimonio gay, anunció el presidente Rafael Correa este sábado, según reporta la agencia AFP, recogida por El Unvierso.

“Los colectivos GLBTI (gays, lesbianas, bisexuales, transexuales e intersexuales) tienen todo el derecho constitucional de registrar en su cédula (de ciudadanía) su unión de hecho”, dijo el mandatario durante su informe semanal de labores.

Con esta decisión, que no implica el reconocimiento del matrimonio gay, las minorías sexuales podrán inscribir en su documento de identidad sus uniones de hecho o de convivencia tras su registro ante notario público.

Según AFP, la autoridad de Registro Civil no le permitía hasta ahora a los homosexuales inscribir sus uniones en el documento de identidad porque no las consideraba un estado civil.

“Si había una duda sobre el derecho a registrar una unión de hecho ya sea de heterosexuales o personas del mismo sexo, ya no queda ninguna duda. Es su derecho”, recalcó el gobernante tras tratar el tema esta semana con representantes de las minorías sexuales.

La Constitución ecuatoriana concede los mismos derechos a las uniones de hecho, sean heterosexuales u homosexuales, que a los matrimonios civiles.

Sin embargo, Correa aclaró que “nunca he ofrecido (aprobar el) matrimonio homosexual”, como piden los grupos GLTBI.

El artículo 67 de la Constitución establece que “el matrimonio es la unión entre hombre y mujer”. El siguiente artículo señala que “la adopción corresponderá solo a parejas de distinto sexo”.
